DAY CARE CENTRE PAINTING
A Fresh Coat That Works Around Your Centre, Not Against It
Day care centre painting in Melbourne comes with rules most commercial jobs never face. Your rooms fill with little hands each morning. Families walk your hallways at drop-off and pick-up. Your educators need every space ready, on time, every day.
Upkeep matters to your rating too. The national regulations require your premises, furniture and equipment to be kept safe, clean and in good repair. The National Quality Standard checks the same thing under Element 3.1.2 (Upkeep). Peeling paint, chipped skirting and scuffed doorframes all work against you.
ABM Painting & Maintenance works out of Croydon, a short drive from Kilsyth, Mooroolbark and Bayswater North. Babak, our owner, has 27 years on the tools and runs every job himself. Working around a live childcare centre isn’t new to him, from after-hours sessions to Christmas closures.
Every quote comes with a Cert III in Painting and Decorating and $10 million public liability cover behind it. That cover is in place before a single tin of paint comes onto your site.
So the real job is planning. Rooms need to stay open, children need to stay settled, and nobody should walk into paint smell or dust.
THE PROBLEM
Sound Familiar? The Repaint That Never Makes the Calendar
These are the worries that come up when a working centre needs painting.
"Fumes in the sleep room."
Our babies nap here after lunch. I can't have them breathing in paint.
"Strangers near the children."
I need to know exactly who's on site and that they're cleared to be around kids.
"No room to close."
We're open every weekday. There's nowhere to move a whole group while their room gets painted.
"Mess left for the morning shift."
My educators don't have time to clean up after trades before the first families arrive.
"Walls that never stay clean."
Between crayon, sticky hands and toy trucks, the walls look tired again a month after we wipe them down.
OUR APPROACH
A Painting Plan Built Around Your Centre's Day
We start with your timetable, not ours. Babak comes out and looks at every room with you, noting which ones you can spare, and when. From there we set out a staged plan that fits around children, staff and families.
- Work done while the doors are shut. We paint after hours, on weekends and over holiday closures. Sleep and play rooms get time to air out before children are back.
- One zone at a time. Staged work keeps the rest of your centre running, with clear barriers and signs between work areas and play areas.
- Finishes that handle little hands. We'll recommend hard-wearing, washable finishes for walls that cop daily knocks, crayon and wipe-downs.
- The same face on site. Babak, our owner, is on every job, so you always know who's in your building.
- Clean before the morning shift. Drop sheets lifted, floors checked and rubbish gone after each session, so educators walk into a ready room.

WHAT'S INCLUDED
What a Day Care Repaint Covers, From Playroom to Front Gate
A childcare centre’s walls get tested by small hands all day and wiped down over and over. That’s why we adjust our commercial painting prep and finish choices for constant cleaning and short work windows.
Spaces children, staff and families use every day
- Playrooms and learning spaces. Walls, ceilings, doors and trims in the rooms that take the most knocks.
- Cot and sleep rooms. Calm, even finishes, painted when the room is empty and left to air.
- Nappy change and toilet areas. Damp, high-hygiene spaces need a moisture-resistant coating, much like the wet areas we plan for in aged care facility painting.
- Kitchens and staff rooms. Durable coatings that cope with steam, splashes and regular scrubbing.
- Entries and hallways. The first spaces families see at drop-off, and the fastest to scuff.
- Outside the building. Fences, gates, verandahs and the walls around your outdoor play space.
How it works
1
Tell us your calendar
Share session times, closure dates and any rooms you can spare.
2
On-site look
Babak checks wear, surfaces and access, and asks how children move through the building.
3
Free written quote
Clear pricing, with each zone matched to a work window.
4
Sealed-off work zone
Barriers, signs and closed doors keep paint gear away from children and play equipment.
5
Repair, then paint
Dents filled, knocks sanded and grime cleaned off before the coats go on.
6
Room reset
We clean up, help put furniture back and show you the finished space.
Planning around Melbourne’s weather in the outer east
Outer east winters are cool and damp, which slows paint drying outside. Commercial painters here commonly move winter work indoors and save exterior coatings for the drier spring and summer months. We plan play-area fences and verandahs for those warmer months where your calendar allows.

WHY ABM FOR CHILDCARE
What You Get When You Book ABM
Five reasons you can hand us the keys and get back to running your centre.
👤
One name on the sign-in sheet
Babak runs every day care job himself, from first sanding to last coat. You won’t be signing in a new face each day.
🛡
Qualified, and covered for it
Babak holds a Certificate III in Painting and Decorating. We carry $10 million public liability, with higher limits available for bigger jobs.
📍
Holiday closures, put to work
We’ve planned painting around operating childcare centres, including long weekends and Christmas shutdowns. Your closed days become painting days.
🔨
Small repairs, same visit
Dented plaster, loose door stops and worn skirting often sit next to the repaint. We fix those too, so there’s one less contractor to vet.
✓
Minutes from your door
We’re based in Croydon, with 27 years painting the eastern suburbs. Centres in Kilsyth, Croydon Hills and Bayswater North are a short drive from our base.
ON SITE AT YOUR CENTRE
Working Safely in a Building Full of Kids
Children are curious, and a painter on a ladder is the most interesting thing in the room. We keep gear behind barriers and doors closed. No tin, tray or scraper is left where small hands can reach it.
Your educators set the pace, not us. If a group needs its room back sooner, or noise is upsetting a child, just tell Babak. The work moves to another zone or another day.
Drop-off and pick-up are your busiest times. We bring gear in and out outside those windows, and keep our vehicle clear of family parking.
Extra work only happens with your okay. If we find soft plaster or damage behind old paint, we show you and price it before going further.

What Directors Ask About Painting Their Centre
Can you paint our centre while it's still open?
Yes, as long as each work zone can be closed off from children. We split the centre into zones and paint them one by one. Any room you can’t spare goes to an after-hours or weekend slot.
When can children go back into a freshly painted room?
Children can go back once the paint has dried and the room has aired out. That’s why we plan sleep and play rooms for times the centre is closed. Drying varies with the weather and the paint, so we’ll talk you through timing room by room.
Will a repaint help with our NQS assessment?
A repaint helps with the upkeep side of your assessment, but it’s only one part of the picture. Fresh paint deals with the peeling walls and scuffed trims that Element 3.1.2 covers. Your rating still depends on all seven quality areas. If an assessment is coming up, let us know and we’ll plan the work around it.
Can you paint during our Christmas closure?
Yes, holiday closures are often the simplest time to paint a whole centre. We’ve scheduled work around childcare Christmas shutdowns and long weekends before. Share your closure dates at quote stage and we’ll plan around them.
What paint finish lasts best on childcare walls?
A hard-wearing, washable finish holds up best to crayon, handprints and daily wipe-downs. We’ll suggest the right sheen for each space, from playrooms to nappy change areas.

Put Your Centre's Repaint on the Calendar
